Things to be Thankful for............................

Hello Everyone.,

I hope that everyone is having a good week!!!  Can you believe that Thanksgiving Day is a week from today?  Where did spring and summer go?  I will not be posting on Thanksgiving Day; and I won't be going to the center on Wednesday, so I'm not sure if I'll have anything to write next week, but if I do, then I'll post up on Friday.

I went to the Center again today for their Thanksgiving Meal.  It cost $5 for this meal, but was well worth the money.  I took a picture of it with my phone, and wouldn't you know it didn't take because I am short on storage!  Ugh!  Anyway, we had turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, roll and butter, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, milk and coffee.  It was extremely filling!

I'm thankful for the progress I made this week on my Trip Around the World for the center.  It is off to the long-arm quilter so she can do her fancy stitching. Can't wait to see how it looks when it comes back to me in two weeks.  Then all I have to do is bind it and it goes for sale.  This would make a really cute quilt for a little girl.  Here it is as of yesterday..............

I worked on making some half-triangles for  a few candle mats I'm working on.this is the fabric I'll be using.  I love the rustic/primitive fabrics especially.  I just began to cut and will be sewing them next.

I also made this cute little crayon caddy for a very special little girl for Christmas.  I'm hoping that she likes it.  It was so much fun to make and very easy.

I'm also still working on that button puzzle.  Still giving me issues making it stay together, but I think I'll try to glue it down on some cardboard and hang it in my sewing area since the buttons relate.  Here is where I'm at today on it.....................................I better get a move on...................

I have to have it finished by next weekend as I'll need my dining room table for Thanksgiving Dinner.

I'm thankful for........my husband, Bernie, my son, Bryan and daughter-in-law, Jess, my entire family and Bernie's family, my friends, my good health, my retirement, and  I'm not hungry, alone, or sad.

I like to reminisce of Thanksgiving's Past. I guess this is why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.

Growing up as a kid, my Mom and Dad always hosted Thanksgiving for my Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.  It was a wonderful family time.  They would all come to our little house and we would have long tables from the church and chairs set up in our living room as our kitchen wasn't big enough to have approximately 18 or so people.  We'd all sit down to eat, but the real meaning of Thanksgiving would come later on when a second group of people would come for turkey and all the trimmings.

My sister worked for the federal government at the nearby US Army base.  She would invite the soldiers that couldn't go home for the holiday to our house for Thanksgiving dinner.  They usually came in their army uniforms, some even came in their Military Police cars with the lights flashing,  one of them became her husband,  my brother-in-law.  I loved helping to serve them without really understanding that they were actually serving all of us, everyday.  I couldn't understand why they couldn't go home for the holiday.  They all ate, had some laughs, thanked my Mom and returned to the barracks.  After they left,  my brothers, sister, cousins and I would travel a few miles down the road to the next biggest town, which if you blinked you missed it,  where they would have their Annual Light Up Night.  If we got real ambitious, we drove all the way to Pittsburgh PA which was about a 20-minute drive to see the windows in the department stores at Kaufmanns, Gimbels, and Horne's which had a huge Christmas Tree on the side of their building at Gateway Center.  It was so much fun!  Awwwww, to be a kid again................

So, I just want to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!  There are so many things that each of us can be thankful for....................just think about it.for a minute.

Gobble Gobble!!!!
Happy Thanksgiving to one and all!!!

Hugs,
Debbie
